| Vasu graduated from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and a Master of Science in Speech-language Pathology under the scholarship of the National Council of Social Services (NCSS). He is the clinical director at Communication for Life.
An ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist, Vasu has also earned ASHA’s Certificate in Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP), the highest preparation for the profession.
Having been a school-based and a medical speech pathologist in both Singapore and the US for more than 10 years, Vasu sees patients of various ages from diverse backgrounds. Vasu specializes in eliciting early voicing and verbal/speech production in children who are non-verbal and minimally-verbal, and has seen considerable success in this area for the last decade. He is a strong proponent of empowering families or caregivers to be knowledgeable partners in all his intervention programmes. He believes in training and equipping parents and caregivers with the necessary skills to expedite progress and breakthroughs in their children’s speech development. As such, Vasu’s sessions begin in clinic but end at home, or at the playground.
His clinical services include clinic-based treatment focusing on children with speech delay, motor-speech disorders, various pediatric oral-sensory motor and feeding/ swallowing problems, genetic syndromes/chromosomal disorders, craniofacial disorders, autism, hearing impairment, learning disabilities, hearing auditory /language processing deficits (APD), dysarthrias, dyslexia, and ADHD.
Vasu is also the only certified Speech-language Pathologist in Singapore who is also trained as an Auditory-verbal Therapist (AVT) under the renowned International AV Consultant, Ms Judith Simser to work on the rehabilitation of patients with Cochlear Implantation.
He uses an eclectic approach including strategies and techniques in (Interactive Oral-Sensory Motor) IOSM therapy, PROMPT, DIR Floortime and other oral-motor programmes for children with various forms of motor speech or planning disorders. He is also certified in VITAL-STIM and able to treat people with Swallowing Disorders from six months and above.
Presently, besides his practice, Vasu teaches speech and language disorders at academic institutions. He is also the consultant at OVSPRING Pte Ltd- a developmental clinic in assessing and treating children with various kinds of disabilities. He also works with the National University of Singapore’s speech and language pathology programme as a clinical supervisor.
He frequently conducts workshops and conferences locally and in the regional countries. The recent workshops were held in Singapore and Surabaya, “Understanding & Working with children who are Non-verbal and Minimally-verbal. He also serves the local and international communities in Singapore, and continues to provide training and consultation around the Asia Pacific region on a regular basis.
Vasu is conversant in English, Malay, Bahasa Indonesia, Tamil and Sign language. He is married with two children.
